Need advice on the value of this clarinet: Selmer Presence in B-flat, decent (not great) condition. Some paint wear on the barrel rings - they were painted black I think, that black paint/lacquer is fading. Original Valentino synthetic pads are in OK shape ands seal fine.
The PROBLEM is the clarinet has a replacement top joint. It plays fine and is more or less in tune, except for the Lt. hand E and F that are quite flat. Those notes are often flat, on many instruments I've had. If they are in tune then usually corresponding B and C will be sharp.
I bought the clarinet on eBay, paid a little over $1200. Contacted the seller and explained the problems (there are a few other problems, relatively minor). The seller says they would be willing to provide a "fair" partial refund.
I am at loss what could be the value of such "hybrid" clarinet.
The joint is probably a replacement from Selmer because it has no serial number.
What are your thoughts?
I was going to keep it as a spare/back-up instrument, still would like to be able to sell it if necessary without losing much money.
Thanks

If it's had a replacement top joint transplant, then that shouldn't have any impact on the price. Chances are that top joint transplant had been done within the first few months after it was bought and was most likely if it was bought at the wrong time of year to begin with.

That is already about a third of the price of a new one, so even with a replacement section and that condition it sounds fair.
