I've always used Vandoren traditional reeds and I'd like to try the V12 once. Do you know what strength of reeds I should try? (I play now 3).

From the Vandoren website:
In comparing strengths, a V.12 strength 4 reed is almost
equal to a Traditional strength 3 1/2 reed.
So 3.5 is probably the best for you to try.

The rule of thumb is to come down one reed strength--as suggested above--if you use a 4, get a 3.5 on the V12.
They're excellent reeds. I started using them a couple of years ago and really like them. They seem to last longer than most.

I disagree with Brenda:
Most people that I know who switched went to a 1/2 strength stronger.
The V12 tend to be softer than traditional reeds so try if you play 3, try 3 1/2.

If you look at the Vandoren Reed Strength Chart or the Chart provided at IMS in their catalogue or on their Website (using Adobe Acrobat to view upon download) you'll see that the Vandoren Traditional ism, indeed, a stronger reed throughout. The Traditional really "breaks out" at # 3 1/2 & gets even stronger in comparison to its brother, the V-12. best, mw
