I have had my Ridenour Lyrique for some years. It's made of Ebonit. After some years it became greenish all over. Very unpleasant looking. No way I could sell it in this condition. Anyone who knows anything about this mystery, please let me know.

Try rubbing a little cork grease on the body. That can help if it's only slightly discolored. If it's heavily faded (which unfortunately mine were after only a few years of careful indoor use) then the body needs to be re-died which is a difficult process and not one I would recommend DIYing.

On the old ClarinetPages website under the Lyrique 576bc listing:
What do you do for hard rubber that turns drab olive in color?
Here's the answer from Tom Ridenour:
Get some good black shoe/leather stain (not shoe polish, but stain that will soak in). Apply it, let it dry and then rub it down.
The rubber does not change colour. The black dye leaches out; natural rubber is white/ivory coloured.

The rubber is not dyed, it is pigmented black, and the black pigment does not leach out. The green color arises from the amine antioxidant which is used in the rubber formulation. The pure amine antioxidant itself is white, but it's oxidation product which forms over time is the green color. This is the cause of the discoloration. The same thing is observed in vintage rubber mouthpieces, like older Kaspar's or Chedevilles.

Ebonite turning green/orange or smelling like sulphur is all part of the course - it's just ebonite doing what ebonite does.
