 Albert system vs. German system
Author: Bill

I'm not able to tell the difference between Albert system keywork and that of the German system. I *can* spot an Oehler because of the "Griffplatte." So, my challenge is identifying German vs. Albert. I should add I'm able to spot a simple system because of the substantially fewer keys on the top joint. But when additional keys start to appear on the top joint, I'm lost.

I think it was Chris P who pointed out that the lower joint flair as it approaches the bell begins higher up on an Albert than on a German system. Is that the only way to distinguish them? This can be hard to spot.

Bill,

On my clarinet (Oehler system), every front/center tonehole has a ring (and one plateau-like key on the RH middle finger).

I think on the Albert system, at least one of those toneholes doesnt have a ring or pad (esp RH index).
