I have a Kaspar Chicago 16 and it has a great tone! However, it has a slight (very slight) chip out of the tip and is hard to play without squeaking. Do I need to have it smoothed? If so, how is this done? I really don't want a refacing job--just the smoothing.

The chip can be filled with an epoxy/ebonite powder mixture, then carefully sanded to level. Please contact me off-line for more details.

The tip is also very thin. It's possible it's had a refacing some time in the past, although the past owner doesn't know for sure. It is a very, very nice Kaspar. I've given up my Cicero 13 for it. A lot of power, but more resistance. I'll take both recommendations to heart.

Another great mouthpiece repairer, is Rick Sayre. He studied with Kaspar and inheritted his tools. I've seen several of his repaired mouthpieces. My teacher has one of his Kaspars that broke with a gold facing.

What do you mean "broke with a gold facing." Do you mean the mouthpiece broke and it was repaired with a gold facing? How would that work?
