Hah! It's interesting to hear, down around 2 Hz, 2 beats per second. Hard to imagine composers using this resource though.

I could see an avant-guard composer using it. Several composers have asked for percussion instruments you need to visit Home Depot to make.

The only time I've done something like this was when my dad had a load of grey foam pipe lagging and I managed to tape around eight pieces together to run down the length of the stairwell, combined with an alto sax mouthpiece stuck in one end.

A similar thing was done to pass the time when I worked at a local music shop by fitting a soprano sax mouthpiece to a BBb tuba and a trombone to see what it would sound like and how many semitones it could produce. Not many - although a 4 valve compensating tuba works better than a non compensating one.

Anyone know where to buy a nice case for one of these?

kilo "Anyone know where to buy a nice case for one of these?"

A Ford Transit van will do the trick.
