Does anyone have the specs on Ted Johnson Mouthpieces. Esp. the TJ3 series. He seemed to have used a rather cryptic marking system like TJ3-1 and TJ3+1. His web site has gone down since his death and I find only scattered and very vague bits of info in web searches. About the extent of the information I can find is that his mouthpieces have close tip facings, product a "dark" tone and project well. But that may be sales hype.

For context, I am interested in experimenting with one of his mouthpieces on my restored Leblanc Symphonie 3. I'm not especially satified with the performance I get with my favorite VD M30 Lyre on this instrument. Any information will be deeply appreciated.

Try the Internet Wayback Machine for past saved versions of his website.

David,

The archives of the web site are there for many years back. They give the same general description of the three different models I've seen before. No facing specs. Notably there is is no mention anywhere of what the -1, +1 means in the TJ3 series (in other places simply - or +).

A caution for those who go there: The two captures from 2023 (the last ones archived) yield URLs in an Asian language.

You may have found this before, but I found a mouthpiece comparison chart and it does show Ted Johnson TJ3/3+, TJ2, and TJ1 in comparison with others sorted by tip openings.

I hope this is helpful?

Thanks David. That's the best info I've found on the TJ mpcs. Still doesn't explain the "-" and "+", but it's more than I had. And thanks for the mouthpiece chart. I have been collecting them and this is one that I didn't have. It has some info that I didn't have on the other charts in my collection. Thanks again.

- Ken
