Does anyone know where the 5-Star fit into the SML manufacturing scheme? My understanding is that clarinets marked either as "Strasser" or "Marigaux" were the finest models, but frankly I know little about them and nothing about the 5-Star. I do know "King-Marigaux" was not a particularly exotic instrument. I have an older "Mariguax" that is very nice. Thanks.

In the SML world, "Strasser" was the student line, "Lemaire" was intermediate, and "Marigaux" was pro-line. The King-Marigaux instruments (saxes as well as clarinets) were pro horns and quite excellent. I don't know where the "5-Star" fits in, either --- I restored an old 5-Star clarinet about two years ago and it was quite nice. My suspicion is that it may have been their top-of-the-line prior to the branding scheme described above. The eBay 5-Star (which is what I assume prompted this discussion) should be a nice clarinet, I was bidding on it myself until the price went out of my range.
