As you and others probably already know Ruben, "the talk" as it regards cane is not simply about growing it at the right latitude and soil but how cane from the Var region of France may be more coveted because of the locale winds that "exercise" the plant.
I'm no arbor- or botanist but it's my understanding that to some extent the pop singer Kelly Clarkson may have gotten this one right (clearly not on purpose) in her "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger" tune in that plants exposed to forces that gently enough bend them without breaking them, like weight resistance for humans, cause the organism to respond by building up mass in response.
