 sticky Daddario reed case

Hi all--
Anybody else use these (there's a recessed space in the lid for a humidipak).

Asking because I have 7 or 8 of them, all around 10 years old, which I use for various types of reeds, and the finish on the exterior, which used to be a nice rubbery nonslip matte plastic, is now tacky to the touch. they're kind of disgusting to handle, and I can see no way to clean them that makes any difference in the tackiness.

Anybody else found this, with these reed cases? And were you able to de-tackify them?

Thanks!

Not with reed case, but I had the same problem with a remote control- when new, it had a nice non-slippery finish but after a few years it became sticky/tacky to touch. Tried rubbing with alcohol and acetone- took most of that finish off but the surface remained tacky...

I have successfully stripped the stickiness off using a high percentage isopropyl alcohol, and a decent amount of elbow grease work. Leaves a smooth plastic.
I’ve done this on 2 or 3 of them.

Check out my posting/thread a month or so back about sticky mouthpiece caps... same problem (we have one of those reed cases too, same problem)

Thanks, folks. I was afraid of that: elbow grease and solvent. I'll check your post, Donald. 'Another damn chore' is NOT what I thought I was buying when I paid what I consider a fair amount of money for the damn things. Thanks again!!

I believe I used one of those products like GooGone and an abrasive pad.

Donald, you haven't said how you got on with your attempts to remove the stickiness. I'd suggestec methylated spirit, which had worked on my D'Addario cases, and other things.
