Mike Lowenstern also has an audio demo on the earspasm.com product page.
I have some not very fond memories of playing a concert on an old Uebel basset horn once in London, so I'm glad they have done some development since then!

The current Uebel basset horn isn't a development - that's already been done by Buffet and Rene Hagmann, the new Uebel one is a carbon copy of the Buffet as are Uebel's other instruments.
Those old DDR-era ones really were something else and largely hit or miss. I had two in a fair while ago and the stupid thing was the leakiest one out of the two was the much better player all round - better tone, response and resonance compared to the other (newer) one. I fully overhauled the newer one and it wasn't any better afterwards - even though it was now airtight instead of leaking like a sieve, so that felt like a complete waste of time and money for no real gain.
The new Buffet-style Uebel basset horns, just like Buffet basset horns, are almost fully vented - the only vent it doesn't have is an Acton vent to fully vent B/F# (and altissimo D#/Eb) with the xxx|oxo fingering. Otherwise all the usual forked fingerings (with a tonehole closed immediately below the one the note issues directly from) are far less resistant. There's doubled LH thumb hones for F# (with LH1 only), doubled toneholes for LH3 for a clear D/A, the open fingerplate for RH1 to 'help' B/F# (with the xxx|oxo fingering), the A/E vent operated by RH3 and the doubled pad cups on the RH F/C key to vent G/D (xxx|xxx) - I wonder if that last one will be prone to sticking on the Uebel basset horn as it is on Buffets?

Certainly, the Buffet’s thumb keys for the bottom two notes are very unergonomic, so it’s good that they have addressed that. Earspasm likens this to the Leblanc, which is honkier than the Buffet, and the video doesn’t really tell us much about how the Uebel might sound. Could be good, though.

Ha - the one I played on sounds like the worse of the two you saw! I think I used the mouthpiece that it came with, but it felt as if it didn't belong with the instrument - no two adjacent notes had the same tuning or resistance.
When you say that the new Uebel ones are based on Buffet designs, is this some sort of licensing arrangement, or are they just measuring a Buffet and making their instruments very similar?

I doubt it's a licencing arrangement as last time I spoke with a Buffet rep about this, they said they have no affiliation with Uebel, even though Uebel are copying their keywork and the Emperior bass itself is a carbon copy of a Prestige bass.

Interestingly Mike Lowenstern opined that this new Uebel BH felt more like the Leblanc rather than the Buffet (https://www.earspasm.com/products/uebel-basset-horn-in-f?variant=49193978921250). One will have to test all 3 side-by-side to verify this.

Which Leblanc? They had a small bore and a large bore model?
