Buffet RC prestige awful quality control

This is the bell of my Buffet RC Prestige clarinet that I bought 6 months ago.

Before buying, I tried the instrument, and of all the models, this one suited me best. Today came a shock! After so many months I noticed that the wood under the ring was damaged during the making of the instrument, and that the workers in the factory put a piece of cloth to fill the gap that was chipped off. Buffet has really fallen to the low branches when this is found on the pro model, which costs over 4,100 euros in the EU.

Nothing there surprises me and awful quality control isn't just isolated to RC Prestiges.

It is probably still covered by a warranty of some sort right? Call Buffet and have them send you a new bell.

I had some quality control issues with a new R13 Prestige A I bought a couple of years ago. The bore had shrank (or perhaps was too small to begin with, and I didn’t notice initially), resulting in the right hand becoming incredibly tight and stuffy over time, like someone had stuffed a sock in my low G/clarion D and the surrounding notes. A technician also found that some of the undercutting in that region wasn’t finished, with at least one tone hole not being undercut at all. It’s a wonder the instrument played as well as it did when I selected it.

In any case, I contacted the Buffet Atelier email, and to their credit they offered to fix it free of charge besides sending the instrument to Paris. It plays much better now. They re-bored the upper joint, selected a new barrel, and fixed some tone holes. Worth trying them at atelier.reparations-expertises@buffetcrampon.com.

4,100 Euros? In the USA it's at least 8,000 USD new, at least in my area.

I can play bass clarinet, Eb clarinet, BBb contra, alto saxophone, bassoon at a decent level, and flute in a pinch.

Well for anybody paying that much, all I can say is make damn sure you're getting the latest model with the rag enhanced bell.😅

It may have a fluffy tone:)
It may lint itself to a variety of uses.
