How do I transpose music for Alto Clarinet to Bb Clarinet?

You have to go down a fifth. This means that B3 on the alto clarinet (sounding D3), resulting in the Bb clarinet's lowest E3, is as low as you can go.

Depending on the range of the alto clarinet part, it might be better to transpose an alto clarinet part to bass clarinet, in which case you have to go up a fourth. The alto clarinet's lowest Eb3 (sounding Gb2) becomes the bass clarinet's Ab3.

Go down a fifth.
C on an alto clarinet sounds a 6th lower - C sounds Eb below.
The Bb clarinet would then play its written note a step higher - F (below the original C).
