Has anyone else noticed the frequency of AI-generated garbage replacing useful information in the descriptions of musical instruments on that auction site?

Hi Ken,
It is annoying but on eBay, the seller is responsible for the description of the item for sale. So, it's not surprising that in any translation from a language other than English, no matter the origin, will likely have syntactic error. It's all about AI.

PS On another dimension of the same problem, I have had dealings with various on-line customer services which many times is surely from a bot. Most often though, the job gets done efficiently.

When reading such a "garbage" description, one would know that the seller most likely is not a musician. Since the description does not tell much about the instrument, pictures become more important (if they are OK quality).
You can always ask questions- many sellers 'omit' mentioning cracks, bent keys, etc.
However, if they replied to you "no cracks", then you can easily return the instrument if it came with a crack. eBay does favor buyer vs. seller and makes it easy to return the instrument if it came with a significant problem that was not mentioned in the description.

It's not just clarinet ads. I'm getting more AI crap every time I netsurf these days. People don't realize what we're getting into. It has the potential to upend all online credibility.
