 Going to Budapest next month

Are there any beautiful woodwind shops like this one for strings?: https://dariusmusic.hu/darius-music-hangszeruzlet/

I will be going to the Liszt museum, and at least view the opera house (DH asked if I wanted to see Rigoletto - which is, let's face it a bit of a downer plot wise, so not sure I want to spend a July evening that way) - is there anything else I could do clarinet/music wise? I think there is going to be a festival when I'm there and I signed up for emails about it but haven't heard from them.

Any suggestions appreciated.

TIA

Elizabeth

I would look for a Buffet/Selmer/Yamaha dealer(s) in Budapest.
Then e-mail them with your questions/needs.
This way you should get proper treatment and be able to buy what you are looking for.

Hello Ms. Elizabeth,

This is the place you want to check out:

http://www.rose.hu/html/uzlet_eng.html

Rose used to be all about clarinets but the store is now dealing in other instruments as well. Years ago, when I used to frequent the place, it was a hang out for all the top flight clarinetists in Budapest (and there were and still are many). The late Kovacs Bela, the doyon of Hungarian clarinetists for many decades, could be found holding court there almost every day.

The shop was like a social club for clarinetophiles and great fun. They even used to put on mini concerts in the store. It is situated on the street adjacent to the opera house. I know for a fact that due to the sheer number of serious clarinet players in Hungary, the country was, and probably still is, one of Buffet’s biggest markets. Ditto for Vandoren.

While you're in Budapest, be sure to check out the new House of Music -- an arresting architectural wonder situated in the Varosliget (City Park):

And, of course, go to one or more of the many spas in Budapest that are the defining feature of the city (and of the entire country). You will have a great time, guaranteed.

The best clarinet & sax technician works in a small town called Pilisvörösvár, with clients from all over Europe. Use can turn on google translation for this article:

The town can be reached by train from Budapest, in about 30 minutes, which is less than what you would spend traveling within the capital from north to south.

A shop with a fine selection of clarinets and equipment in the inner city:

Have a great time there!

Thank you for the suggestions!

I'm more thinking of just window shopping, maybe hearing some music (that House of Music looks amazing Paul).

When I was in Berlin years ago, I regretted not going into a woodwind shop that looked so inviting. At the time I wasn't playing my clarinet, and I was, to be honest, a little scared to go in there.

I don't plan on buying anything major... ok, maybe just one little mouthpiece.
