I remember Larry Combs coming to Paris to the Leblanc factory to test new models. The technicians complained that he wasn't the ideal tester because any instrument he would pick up, he would make sound like the world's finest clarinet!

Thanks for sharing this. I only got to see him play a few times during his tenure in Chicago but it was always very memorable and I remain a fan.

Seriously one of the best principal clarinet players of all time. His playing in recordings is all substance and is timeless.

What were the first two pieces played in the background of the video? Was that Larry Combs? If so, from what album or concert? It was beautiful playing, classically liquid tone!

I think the pieces at the opening of the video were two of the Scriabin prelude transcriptions he recorded many years ago. They may still be available on CD, not sure. I seem to recall that the transcriptions were published but the details of such escape me now.

Just checked the Luyben Music Catalog. They have the Seven Preludes by Scriabin arranged by Willard Elliot for clarinet and piano.
