 Leblanc LL Eb clarinet barrels

I recently purchased a used Leblanc LL eefer manufactured circa 1982. It’s a lovely instrument and has a great sound, but the stock 40mm barrel is far too short to play in tune. I brought it to a tech who fixed some minor issues in the instrument, and he agreed that the instrument likely needs a 42.5mm barrel to bring it down to the correct pitch.

I learned from him that these Leblanc LL clarinets have nonstandard tenon sizes, and most Eb barrels are too large for my instrument. I wanted to see if anyone has faced this same issue and found a barrel maker that can provide one of the correct dimensions, which I’d prefer over hacky solutions like adding washers to space out the stock barrel or recorking the top joint with a very thick cork to fit standard barrels.

Ideally, if someone has found a specific barrel model/maker that can fit my instrument, I would like to look into any of those options. I’m not opposed to having something made custom per my specific instrument dimensions, so if anyone can recommend any active Eb barrel makers to reach out to, that would be welcome as well!

Hi, Yes your tech is correct. The tenon is a different length and diameter. What I have done is used electrical tape for the diameter, lazy me. The tenon on Leblanc Ebs is shorter. I fitted Backun tulip bells and barrells. I have bought longer barrells and turned them down or used spacers. IMHO the internal gap can be a good or bad. Having no space is usually better for tuning ans stability in the upper.registers. Backun Bells are also longer tenons and IMHO flat, so turn down tenon and increase flare. I also have bells and barrels from a later Leblanc concerto which fit well and have a voicing groove IMHO better than the original, which was a custom leblanc design, better than average.

Pereira3D makes custom barrels on demand at a really affordable price.

See: https://www.pereira3d.com/

I use a custom sized barrel for my Tosca E-flat from him which plays as well as the stock ones I have.

I have an old Boosey&Hawkes Imperial plastic Eflat (ex-military, bought at auction for £35). It consistently played flat (probably my embouchure!) so I needed a shorter barrel. Not being prepared to pay for a normal barrel, I bought a Chinese one off the web for £8. Needed a little reaming out of the tenon socket, but suits my purpose and pocket...

Hi likely your B & H e flat is an ex-military rod rubber. The idea was to have a parade ground horn.

Yes it is - the case has a "School of Music" stencil. Definitely plastic of some sort - I dropped it and it it cracked across the body so I epoxied it back together.

I would second the suggestion for Pereira3D. Too my knowledge, no one except the 3d printer manufacturers make barrels for Leblanc and Noblet eb instruments. There is not enough market since they stopped producing instruments a long time ago.
