Might work better on an EEb Contra-Alto(or as I sometimes call it, "Sub-bass") but hey, I do like your thinking!

Except for poor altissimo response, it’s not bad!

Edit: Even with the cut-out barrel, I still had to chop a centimeter and a half or so off the end.

You could've always taken an angle grinder to the barrel.
