 Another mystery horn...

Never saw one like this before:

It seems to be an Albert system horn with open holes (not plateau keys) that is smaller than an alto. This isn't one of the elusive basset horns, is it?

Looks like an Albert version of the old Linton curved-bell Bb clarinets. Hmmm.......

Too small for a basset horn, which is pitched no higher than F.

From the dimensions it would appear that this horn is pitched either in B flat or C.

There is a famous jazz archive type photo of old New Orleans clarinetist Louis Nelson DeLisle (sp?) playing one of these.

It's hard to tell from the photos. Given the relative size of the mouthpiece, it might be in C, but imagining the center joints with a normal barrel and bell, it looks more like a Bb. The given length of 21" isn't much help, since you don't know how they measured it. If they leaned it up against the wall and put a yardstick by it, then with the bell and the neck straightened out it would be the length of a Bb.

I've played only one instrument like this, years ago at Charlie Ponte's store, except that was a Boehm system. For what it's worth, it was one of the worst instruments I've ever played.

Wall display only, I think.
