Hello all!
I was looking at Buffet Icon necks and they look to be about the same design as on my R13 Prestige. Will an Icon neck fit my 80's bass clarinet?
Also, what is the actual model number of my bass clarinet? 1193?
Its serial is 279xx if that helps.

I do not have direct experience, but a friend who plays Buffet told me that the Icon neck does not fit pre-Prestige models.
You can check easily asking for outside tenon measures but the lenght and bore has much to do with intonation, so matching the neck could be problematic... try it frist

Well, this might not be very helpful but I have a Buffet bass from the 1930s and a modern Buffet neck (from an early 2000s bass) fits well and tunes, but needed the register key slightly customised to still work (Gordon Palmer, who frequently posted here before he passed unexpectedly, had to add some length to the key).

I can't say for sure, but a friend has a late 80s or early 90s Buffet bass clarinet and I have a early 2000s 1193 (same as the model made from 1999 until now in that respect), and the necks are not interchangeable. The Icon is made to fit the current model. It's been a few years since I've tried it so don't remember exactly, but one of the neck tenons didn't fit the other (can't remember which was which) and the keys were way off too.
Of course the keys can be modified to work and the tenon too. I don't remember if it was just an OD issue so whether they would work acoustically is another matter.

Unfortunately no, an Icon neck won't fit on your 80s bass, at least not in its original configuration. The linkages are very different.
That, if your neck has the same overall bend as the current model(with the tuning slide in the middle then you may be able to swap the the register keys on the Icon neck with the stock neck's (fellow BBoard member jdbassplayer has demonstrated this) in order to fit the Icon neck onto your older bass, as the the register key on both iterations are the same except for the linkage.
However if your neck has the even older design with a lower angle(an angle I wish Buffet still offered) and a tuning slide right below the mouthpiece socket then this may be more challenging- as you would at the very least need to modify your Icon neck's register key to fit on your older Buffet bass.
