I've tried them both. I like them equally although they're by no means substitutes for one another.
For those who have tried both--and granted, the long term appeal of Legere's French Cut has not yet allowed time to work on it--which do you like better?

I just think that it's great that there is some serious competition going on here.
Always a good driver of research and development.
I wonder how these two reeds will compare in terms of working life.

I'm hearing the VK1 is more flexible than European Cut for jazz, klezmer, etc. I'm also hearing it's unsuitable for large ensembles because of poor projection. More than one person mentioned inconsistencies between different VK1's of the same strength. Clarinet pros with YouTube channels seem to like it. Haven't tried it.

What does that mean? They are both clarinet reeds, so obviously they ARE substitutes for each other in the basic functional sense. Are the VK1 and French Cut so vastly different in response, tone, or other playing characteristic that you believe them to have nonoverlapping musical applications? If so, could you please elaborate?
