Bob, I just spent my NO money on my new Greenline. Check them out while you're there.
And have one for me, Bob. I'm really gonna miss meeting everyone. I was really looking forward to playing with Pete.

"...(College days and maybe more money..."
Sounds like an oxymoron to me David.

David is a hyigh schooler as I recall. I have not forgot how POOR I was in High School. AND, many (my) parents would not allow a 17 y/o to go out of town on other than special supervised group trip (smart parents!).
David --- don't despair. ClarinetFest returns to the U.S. every other year ... at this point it is the ODD years. SO, 2003 is a U.S. venue. Next year promises to be a great trip, but it will be very expensive. Of course, for our fellow Clarinetists outside of the U.S. this year's ClarinetFest will be very expensive, too.
Best,
mw

Not quite. 2 years US, 1 year outside US. A bit of the schedule:
1996 - Paris, France
1997 - Lubbock, TX
1998 - Columbus, OH
1999 - Oostende, Belgium
2000 - Norman, OK
2001 - New Orleans, LA
2002 - Stockholm, Sweden
2003 - ???

Mark, there used to be a T-shirt that said, "Where in the H--- is Midland, Texas?"
Guess that could be said about Lubbock, TX if there wer'nt so many Red Raiders around.

Thanx, Bob G, is still hale and hearty by then, will sure take you up on it, have a son and family in San Jose which MAY diminish housing costs. S F can be costly also!! Sure hope that "Barry" doesn't bury N O by floods, might have wet music!! Doubt I can make it, problems in OK! Don

Yeah, I have smart parents, mw. I'm not in despair yet. I'm just being patient. I thought I heard a rumor that after Sweden it was going to be held in Vegas.

Doggone I wish I could make this one. No'lins is just a short drive from here and would like so much to meet you all, but my job prevents it. Maybe I can get a better job like "life guard" in the local car wash or something.

David,
If you want to study clarinet in Vegas--that's possible. A truly outstanding clarinet professor is at the Univ. of Nevada at Las Vegas. His name is Dr. Raphael Sanders. He's one of the finest clarinetists I've ever heard and a wonderful teacher. Knows his stuff.
Of course, I don't know if I'd want my kid in Vegas--but Raphael has a way of keeping you busy. He also is really heavily involved in a lot of international clarinet stuff.

I can second Brenda's post about Dr. Sanders. Though I am an adult amateur, Dr. Sanders conducts the Las Vegas Clarinet Choir, that I play in. I have watched him with many students, and he has a way of bringing out the best without intimidating or humiliating them. He makes learning and performing very enjoyable. I have only had the pleasure of hearing him perform once. But it was great.
He has done great things for the clarinet studio at UNLV, and Vegas isn't really that bad a place for someone who's focused on music. The salaries, even for part time employment are better than average.
The UNLV school of music is worth a look!
See you in N'awlins!
Kevin
