 Tosca Eb Clarinet

Can anyone fill me in on why Buffet's Eb clarinets are impossible to get right now and backordered over a year?! This seems a little odd to me. TIA

Is that just in the US or also in Europe?

La Musa has them. Seven Buffet flavors.

I would be very curious to know from someone with direct knowledge from Buffet how many professional bass clarinets and professional e-flats they can produce annually. They are almost never in stock long enough to grab one fast enough. I bought my Prestige bass used at a time when the wait for brand new was too long and I needed something ASAP.

Weiner Music’s website shows them as in stock.

I'm looking at getting an Eb as soon as I financially recover from my bass, what's a good one to have for someone who *greatly dislikes* playing my school's E11?

I have an R-13 E-flat from 2008 that I bought from Walter Grabner. It plays well, but right now it's almost $7000. You might do well getting something used or refurbished. Important thing to keep in mind is finding a good mouthpiece and barrel combination. I use an E-flat extension on mine as well which really helps even out the notes in the middle of the staff (B-C-D).

Goodluck!

I almost snagged a used Tosca a couple months back, but their website wasn't updated and it had already been sold. And when they got back to me they told me they had looked for another one for me but I was told the wait was a year.

Seems like both. I ended up ordering from La Musa (in Spain) and they have one coming in December that I ordered just in time as they've reserved one for me. They told me if I had waited only a couple more days to order I'd have to wait until mid 2025, which is wild to me!

It is a great instrument. Certainly the best Eefer I've ever played. Really good intonation and lovely sound. Maybe with all this interest Buffet will up its production.

After playing it, I bought a Tosca Bb and love it too.

Just think about the poor bassoonist hoping to get a new Heckle. Last I heard, the wait list was 17 years! If you want to give one to your child to have when they start college, you need to order it right after they are born . . . and hope that they don't pick up trombone instead.

A while ago I made a post about wanting to try a couple of top of the line Eefers. went to the largest music store near me and got to hear that all big brands had a delivery time of more than half a year. Eventually had the luck to stumble upon a secondhand recital (which only happens once in 5 years or so)
