 Clarinet case specs

I think I asked this before some years ago but trying again, in case anything changed.

I'm looking for a clarinet cases with these specs:
- Fits a single Bb clarinet with all parts disassembled
- Has space for two barrels in a comfortable way
- Has shoulder straps (like a backpack) and is comfortable to carry this way
- Fits unfolded A4 papers and has some room for a few accessories (like a box of reeds, etc.)
- Preferably lightweight or at least not unusually heavy

Last time I was looking for that I bought a Protec Max, which sort of has all these features but it's not good enough.
The second barrel fits in a sort of makeshift way in a larger area.
The shoulder straps and case itself is not too bad, but not particularly comfortable either.
My clarinet upper section is slightly longer than standard and the Protec inner material is a bit hard, making it a light press fit, to the point that it's annoying.

Looking for something else that wouldn't have these issues. The only case I know of with these specs is the Bam Trekking which isn't very light but better compromise overall (the Protec is very light which is nice).

Thank you

Your best bet is a Yamaha single case (for the YCL-650) or Pro Tec micro case and using it in conjunction with a back-pack.

I think you misread. OP said big enough for unfolded A4 sheet music. I’ve personally never seen a single soprano clarinet case that big. Sounds impossible to me. At least one requirement will have to be dropped.

On the contrary I didn't misread anything - if you use a compact case in conjunction with a back-pack, there's still going to be plenty of room in there for a music case that will take A4 sheet music.

ProTec used to make a case bag for a single clarinet or oboe case, but I don't think they offer that anymore. Another option is a laptop bag that has enough room for a compact single clarinet case. If it doesn't have a shoulder strap, you can always fit one if you're resourceful.

The OP said he wanted one huge case. You recommend a small case plus a backpack. While I agree that your solution is the best practical option, it’s not what the OP asked for.

I can't see the words 'one huge case' listed in the criteria:

- Fits a single Bb clarinet with all parts disassembled
- Has space for two barrels in a comfortable way
- Has shoulder straps (like a backpack) and is comfortable to carry this way
- Fits unfolded A4 papers and has some room for a few accessories (like a box of reeds, etc.)

He said “I want a clarinet case”, singular, that “fits unfolded A4”, aka huge. But hey, if he goes for your solution that’s great. It’s exactly what I do myself, use the smallest cases I can find plus a backpack for all my stuff.

Maybe the Howarth/Tom and Will single Bb case/music case combo will fit the bill and they're around £50: https://www.howarthlondon.com/product/student-single-bb-clarinet-case-black/

The Protex Pro Pac is definitely bigger than the Max. It's actually very nice.
Just bought an R13 Prestige, and I'm using the Protex instead. It's a better case than Buffet's case. For one thing, the clarinet fits much more snugly than the Buffet.

Some clarifications.

>> Your best bet is a Yamaha single case (for the YCL-650) or Pro Tec micro case and using it in conjunction with a back-pack. <<

I already have a small case I can do that with. This case+cover approach is exactly what I'm trying to avoid with the new case, and why I bought the Protec Max in the first place.

>> OP said big enough for unfolded A4 sheet music. I’ve personally never seen a single soprano clarinet case that big. Sounds impossible to me. At least one requirement will have to be dropped. <<

>> The OP said he wanted one huge case. <<

No, I'm not looking for one "huge" case, but a case that has the features I mentioned.
Both the Protec Max and the Bam Trekking are big enough for that. I wouldn't call either them huge, but the Protec in particular isn't even that big. I bought it because it's lighter but it has all the issues mentioned. The Bam is a bit heavy and a little thicker than it has to be, so I'm wondering if there are alternatives. If not I might get the Bam after all.

>> The Protex Pro Pac is definitely bigger than the Max. <<

Thanks, but looking at photos it seems that it would have most if not all of the issues I have with the Max case. Except maybe being more comfortable to carry, which isn't something I can find out without trying it, and not enough of an improvement.
