 Patricola clarinets - Website?
Author: Paul Aviles

My question is a little bizarre but hopefully (being clarinet related) it can be easily explained by you IT types and perhaps our own Board moderators.

If you search Patricola Clarinets (at least when I do this in either Safari or Mozilla on my lap-top) I get stuff like eBay, Reverb, Woodwind and Brasswind, but no Fratelli Patricola. You can get there if you type in "https://www.patricola.com" or click on the link in Wikipedia (of all things).

QUESTIONS: Are some websites banned or otherwise shunned by browsers?

Can you ban a website within a browser?

Why might Patricola not be searchable under normal browsing means?

Unlike earlier (and in my opinion - better) search engines, today's search engines mandate how a web designer must do certain things. This generally falls under the scope of "Search Engine Optimization" - or SEO. If a developer fails to design the site to the standards of any specific search engine, or violates certain "rules" a search engine requires - it can cause all sorts of problems for that site's rankings. Everything from font sizes, to first links, to words used impacts SEO.

Character encoding, language used, etc.

Type in Patricola Clarinet Website, and you'll probably see the site listed at the top - or in a sidebar.

While I don't have the time to look into the Patricola specific issue - I doubt it has been banned or anything like that.

My guess would be that the web designer has violated one or more of the search engine requirements, and is being punished with poor search placement. Either that, or the site perhaps was designed to place highly for a different language, etc.

Yes, their website works. My issue is that when you put the name into the search bar, the only things that pop up are associated retailers or various used instruments listed on the web.I think most of us would find it odd (inconvenient even) if searching for "Clarinet Bulletin Board" only resulted in peg boards with images of clarinets on them.

So what would one advise Fratelli Patricola to do to become "visible again" on the interweb?

Paul,

The default language of the website is Italian. Perhaps search for clarinet in Italian...something like Patricola clarinetti (you might have to include the word clarinetti in quotes or with a + sign in front of it).

Perhaps the site ranks fine in the search engines for Italian users in Italy?

Ok, one last try.

I put in "Wurlitzer clarinet" if I am interested in knowing more. The second entry on the interweb is indeed WURLITZERKLARINETTEN.DE. I didn't need to know German to bring that up.

Also just a year or so ago when you (let's leave me out of this for a moment) put in "Fratelli Patricola" (of course you'd have to know the Fratelli part) the website came up with no problem.

I'm just wondering why someone curious about Patricola clarinets would have to have an IT degree to find their website.

P.S. I've sent them a notice that they are not searchable. Hopefully someone there will know how to fix this.

It looks to me like Patricola have changed their website and perhaps that is the cause of the difficulty when searching? (I meant to add - the problem on their end with SEO.)
