I know, I know, we've heard enough about Greenlines.
Just received mine (yesterday) and tried it last night. Peter Spriggs did a beautiful job on it and it real runs great. I was able to go all the way to "C" above the staff (an area I have not covered in my lessons/training yet) on the first try - very smooth.
I'll have to wait till next Sat. (teacher's on vacation this week) lesson before I get an evaluation on intonation, "in tune", and all the other terms that I have not learned, but so far it seems to be really nice -- must have something to do with the "newness" thing, huh?
As I told Peter, the only disappointment is that my "stock" Debut and M13 Lyre mouthpieces do not fit the barrel (too small - better than too large) so I will need to have them recorked.
Now if I could only play something other than the "F" & "C" scales -- we're getting there though. Look out Pete & Eddie, here we come!

Jerry, I disagree on your assessment of the cork.
Too SMALL is BAD.
Too LARGE is GOOD
If too small you tear it off & put another one on. That costs $$$$.
NOW --- WHAT TO DO IF TOO LARGE :
If too large you can take a small thin skinnt, rectangular piece of sandpaper, belt sandpaper, or thin strip of screen mesh like from a screen window ... and you take off the cork ... evenly & slowwwwly. BEING CAREFUL not to sand or scrape the upper or lower portions of the mouthpiece/tenon's wood. STAY ON THE CORK (caveats added for rookies & others who have never tried.
FOR EXTREME ROOKIES: (I am an ex-officio of this category) Take one of your (or your wife's/mother'/father's/inlaw's/anybody's) NAIL/EMORY BOARDS ... use the skinny type ... and go slowly to distribute the cork reduction evely.

MW,
I too need a smell (i mean spell) chekr. The old story amoung architeks is that the gud ones canot spel.
What I meant was, the tennon on the mouthpeice is too small, thereby allowing me to shim it (with teflon tape) to get it to fit snugly into the barrel. If it were too large I would need to use the procedure that you suggest. Albeit, I would/will actually have it taken care of professionally.
Does that sound better?

Well, hey! You can always let your teacher take a look at it and advise or help you get that minor flaw fixed.
Glad your investment paid off for you. Happy honking!!!

Happy honking? Well, he's in boot camp, and I'm on the stage of graduating... I guess honking is an appropriate term for all of us. lol

Another trick with a cork that is too small is to take a cigarette lights and heath a knife blade and put the blade flat on the cork.

Let's see if I have this right ... we spend upwards of $2,000 for a new Buffet Greenline R-13 & then we _RIG_ the mouthpiece with TAPE ? (hey, whaddaboud STRING ?)
Like the fellow once said ... "whatever trips yer trigger". The max that a music store would charge for a new cork would $5 or $10. If they charge you more, find a different music store.
Jerry --- the problem is NOT "the tennon on the mouthpeice is too small". The Tenon just needs to be recorked. ( ... now if you understood that previously your problem is NOT a spellchecker .... ) : )
Best,
mw

Jerry,
I'm glad you got an instrument that makes you happy. I know you've been on the "quest" for awhile. Congratulations.
John
