Hi I was wondering if anyone knows the difference between vito contrabass clarinet and leblanc contrabass clarinet. I have been looking to buy a contrabass clarinet for a while now and I have been offered several vito contrabass clarinets I just want to know what the difference between the two are?

Leblanc contrabasses (in BBb) are made entirely from metal and are either built in straight from to low Eb or in paperclip form to low D or low C (older ones are often built to low D), whereas Vito ones are built to low Eb and have straight plastic bodies and therefore need plenty of slop for the long key rods so they won't bind up between the pillars when played in cold conditions.

With the Vito and also the straight form Leblanc contrabasses (if you mean the BBb contrabass), you'll need a bar stool or similar as they are tall instruments. The Leblanc ones in paperclip form are far more compact and you can use a regular chair when playing them.

Edit - I didn't realise the Leblanc 7182 is also a plastic contrabass, so it's most likely identical to the Vito one.

Do you know the height difference between the straight metal one and the plastic one?

They ought to be the same height if the main body section is the same length as well as the mouthpiece angle. I doubt there's much between them if they're both made using the same tooling.

The 7182 is the Vito. 7182 is the model number and Vito is the brand:

I would recommend a metal Leblanc over the Vito, the straight version is the model 342.
