A while back several members were saying the the LeBlanc Symphony clarinets
did not project. I have a matches set of LeBlanc Symphony clarinets and I have had no problems with projection. I think the problem others have had are caused by the mouthpiece or reed combination they were using. The Clear Lake Symphony recorded the Borodin "In the Steppes of Central Asia" in May of this year. I am the Principal Clarinet of the group. The recording is now on youtube.com. Look under Clear Lake Symphony to see it. I think you will see that the clarinet projection is fine.

You do play very softly. Flute was louder. Not familiar with this piece, so maybe it was written that way.

Bob, Very nice sound! I played a Symphonie 4 clarinet in high school back in the mid 1960s. I loved that instrument. What mouthpiece and reed combination do you play on?

Bob - I second the comment about your very nice sound! I have a Leblanc Symphonie 3, and recognize the very sweet clear sound. Wonderful performance.
My experience, however, has been that mine does not project especially well. I typically play it with a Backun Traditional bell which improves the projection somewhat, but it still doesn't project especially well. My Symphonie 3 full Boehm, on the other hand, projects extremely well with the same setup. But it lacks the sweetness of the standard Boehm,
I note that that this performance was well miked. I have to wonder what this performance sounded like from the middle of the audience. As an audio recording, however, this is a wonderful performance. Thank you for sharing it.

i have a symphony 1 clarinet that i logged a lot of time playing it in a german band. i used a larry combs 3 mpc . it projected just fine over the brass. a good but not great clarinet. my LL is much better.

To reply to the question about my mouthpiece, this performance was played on a Wodkowski R facing mouthpiece. In my opinion, the mouthpiece makes more difference on projection than the clarinet. The clarinet solo in the beginning of the piece is marked piano (p). I was told by another clarinet player in the audience that the LeBlanc Symphony clarinet projected to the back of the 1000+ seat auditorium just fine. These are really fine clarinets!

My experience playing the Symphony matches the general impression of fellow posters. Mine was bought from a lady whose barrel was bored to house a mic.
I had at that time and have since kept an LL from ‘64 (silver-plated keys among which is a shark-tail shaped octave key. Long Live the small-bore clarinets!
