I recently picked up a Buffet A clarinet from an auction site. Basic observations indications that it it an R13 from 1971. Only downside is pinned crack in the upper joint, but whoever did it did a fine job.
The strange wrinkle I've never seen before is that there is a "0" stamped below each emblem on every joint. Has anyone seen this before? I thought maybe it was factory pinned by Buffet at some point, and thus branded, but that's my only theory so far.
Any knowledge/theories are welcome!

Could be the previous owner had it done, possibly to prevent mixing with another R13 (but there is a serial #) or to be able to identify it in case of theft.

Kal opperman my old teacher at hartt would stamp 0 on Clarinets that he selected at carl Fisher and worked on .
He would not do this with clarinet that were brought to him that he personally did not select
Now we have a problem .the only people I know who have an original kalman opperman clarinet that is stamped with an o is ken legacy, allan Francis and the late. Ken shaw
I know for a fact that kal stopped this practice of stamping a clarinet with an o because it was cloned by many people out there .....his stamp was a special 0.....
He also stamped bbls that he reworked from New stock.....I had one and the 0 did not look like your stamp
UnFortunately for you from the ones that I have seen that were positively from kal... yours does not have that special 0. so all I can say is that someone cloned it at some point with a stamp and put it out in the market 40 years ago or more

BTW....FORGET THE NONSENSE OF THINKING THE BUFFET FACTORY PINNED THE CRACK....
AND THEN BRANDED IT WITH THE STAMPED 0
SNOW WHITE AND THE 7 DWARFS WAS A FAIRYTALE, TOO

Thanks for the fascinating info! This shipped to me from a Sam Ash in Florida, where it was labeled as a C12, Bb, and priced accordingly to their "research". Looks like it's been played a fair amount, but was lovely owned because it came in an absolutely mint era-correct double case and case cover. My "crack"-pot theory was just based on sometimes seeing weird company marks when a joint gets factory replaced etc. It's a decently done repair structurally, but the finish work was crap so I'll be redoing it for better aesthetics.
And be real now, I heard recently from both Santa Claus AND the Easter Bunny that Snow White and at least 5 of those dwarves actually existed
