 Ben Armato's REED WIZARD
Author: mw
Date:   2001-08-01 16:51

((This is a PLUG for Ben, but I have no shame since he is a GREAT man & we all owe much to him for his hard work & dedication to all things Clarinet))

Ben has just informed me that a newly designed tool has been added to THE REED WIZARD. The new improved REED WIZARD will sell for $250, a price reduction of $50. Ben is excited about the improvement made.

So as not to leave current owners behind, Ben is offering to upgrade (changeout the older tool for) current REED WIZARD users. Please contact Ben for further details.

Anmy of you going to ClarinetFest in N.O can see Ben at his booth. Take a couple of new lousy reed along for demo purposes!

Ben Armato & his company are (proud) supporters of Sneezy.

Second the plug for Ben and his Reed Wizard. He recently upgraded my RW with a new carriage and carbide bit to replace the original file bit and I must report that I am in "Reed Adjustment Heaven" as a result. The carbide is much more efficient and makes much finer adjustments possible and without the "grooves" the file used to leave. I personally use the Reed Wizard in my daily routine of reed adjustments and am able to make playable, nearly every reed out of the box--even those touchy and inconsistant VDs that too many of us discard as "unusable." Here is also a plug for his collection of excerpts called "THE OPERA CLARINETIST." I know of no other source that one can find with such a comprehensive collection of clarinet parts from the most performed operas--13 composers and 23 excerpts with suggested tempos and other performance hints--as performed by Ben as Principal Clarinetist of the NYC Metroploitan Opera House orchestra. I am enjoying my book by reading some arias every day--a welcome addition to the usual concertos, sonatas and orchestral excerpts (ad nausium sometimes). Thanks, Ben and Good Clarineting. (not a paid endorsement, but rather free and honest)

Thanks mw.

I contacted Ben this afternoon, and sent my Reed Wizard to him for upgrade. He said that I could get the original back if I'm not satisfied with the upgrade. I think I'll be satisfied though.

OPPS!!!!--I guess I read more into the bio " of the Metropolitan Opera House House" than I should have. Still, when you work a gig like that, here is not much difference between "Principal" and "Utility"--like the difference between "top" to "bottom" in the Chicago Symphony, or any other major performance venue, for that matter. And, while accuracy in reporting is important, this error on my part should not cloud the fact that Ben was a talented clarinetist and that his Reed Wizard is a wonderful tool making reed adjustments much easier.

( And, so that all of you "utility" clarinetists out there will not get your hopes up, I will not be promoting anyone to Principal without first getting my facts straight.)

Good Clarineting (and keep practicing!!)

I just purchased Ben's new Reed wizard and I love it. It cuts down on reed adjustment time tremendously and greatly reduces the need for any other reed adjustment tool. Bravo Mr. Amato!

I sent my RW to Ben via Priority Mail late Wednesday afternoon. It was in my mail box today, Friday. Talk about speed - I'm amazed.
