 Dr's Product Cork Grease
Author: Bennett 2017

The cork grease formerly available from Dr.'s Products (Doctor Syntek), marked NASA spec. cork grease and supplied in little tubs, is no longer available from the 'new' Dr.'s Products.

Any suggestions about where else I might find it. A Google Search wasn't helpful and no one is hoarding it on Ebay.

I really like this grease as I need apply it a lot less often than the 'chapstick' like products.

Thanks

I also used this stuff for years, but haven't found a new source for it, so I assume it's no longer made.

I now use Tromba, which has much the same consistency as the Doctor's stuff, lasts just as long, and is as easy to clean from the fingers as the Doctor's.

I just wish it was supplied in tube form as it was as an option for the Doctor's stuff instead of only in tubs.

(In my wildest dreams I never thought I'd ever post anything here about cork grease.)

B.

Well, I didn't ask for recommendations about which color swab was best.

I think you may be mixing up 2 products. The Syntek is key oil, Dr. Slick is the cork grease. Both of which seems to be available. I love both products, if you care about your horns they are the best of the best. Just ordered both a few months ago with no issues.

Most products from Doctor's Products were made by him/them, so unlikely to be available anywhere if not available directly. I'm not sure but it's probably no longer made, along with the many other changes they had.

Have you tried Doctor Slick? It's very good, I prefer it much more than Syntek. The latter tends to slide off the cork much more easily and is more greasy on your fingers.

Out of too many I've tried, my absolute favourite cork grease is Alisyn. It's also synthetic, but has a more creamy texture, without the annoying greasy feel of Syntek. Doctor Slick is a not-that-close second, partly because I like its smell (many don't like it though).

When Omar was still there he had two types of cork grease, one Slick and another synthetic type (I assume OP is right that it was called Syntek). They were very different in feel and texture.

I don't like the Syntek oil at all. It has a foul smell. Most other excellent instrument oils barely even have a smell. It also only comes in one viscousity that is too thin than ideal for most places on woodwinds.

La Tromba do offer a lipstick-style cork grease which I presume is a firmer version of their usual cork grease (which I absolutely swear by).

I've not tried it myself as I don't know anywhere in the UK that sells it, although it could probably be ordered from overseas:

Ah I see, I was unaware of Dr. Syntek:

It sounds like this may have been some kind of industrial lubricant that was sold under another name but repackaged by Omar. Perhaps it is possible to reach out to the person running the current website to gather more information?

Thanks to those who suggested Tromba and Alisyn. I'll give them a try.

Sorry for the confusion about Doctor Syntek, oils and grease. Doctor Syntek is on the label of my tub of "NASA spec. cork grease" and it's this grease that Doctor's Products no longer sells https://www.doctorsprod.com/
