Ok, for some odd reason when I play my clarinet I burp a lot of times. Does anyone lese have that problem? Has anyone heard of someone else who does it? Does anyone on this board burp when they play their clarinet? I am just wondering if this is normal or weird
Thanks
Mindy

Burping isn't normal. Could you be swallowing air when you are taking breaths while playing? Do you have the same need to burp when you sit in your normal clarinet-playing posture without playing?

This may seem like a silly question for you but, do you practice after you eat? That's the only time I ever burp while practicing. It probably isn't a wise idea to practice after dinner, but I do it anyway!

WEll...........I dont ususally practice after eating sometimes I do but I like to practice in the morning. (weird huh? hehehe) I don't think I am swallowing the air. But I may be but I am really not sure I don't think so though. Thanks

Only after communion during church. And it's annoying because burping tends to lower my pitch a full step and a half. So I try to time it when a mulitiphonic major sixth would sound right and then let it out quick. (Good thing I'm allowed to improvise; otherwise I'd have to stop to burp.)

Try not to drink alot of beer just before you play.

Poor Mindy, trying to get some logical advice and she is getting mauled over with beer jokes!
I agree that playing after eating could be the cause and also possible that she is swollowing air and not realizing it. Mindy, do you have a private teacher with whom to discuss? Having someone watch you while you play might be helpful.
Good luck!

it can be a problem, I have had trouble with it since I started and have to pause once or twice then its ok. It does not seem to make any difference with just eating or drinking it just happens and I am glad to hear that someone else has that problem I thought I was by myself.
Cheers, paris
