Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Buffet RC Full boehm clarinet from ebay and it's on the way. I'm always looking at the photos on the ebay site because I'm excited and something interesting caught my attention today. The serial numbers on the lower and upper body of the clarinet are different (both serial numbers start with F and the last 3 digits are 210). I am attaching this photo here. Have you ever encountered such a thing?

Serial numbers:
F306210
F508210

Thank you.

Happens all the time when sellers replace a broken or missing joint with one from another horn.

Certainly not a good practice and certainly not good that the seller didn't mention it.

Will the clarinet perform as well as the same instrument with matched joints? It depends.

I just saw the more recent comments, had a another and much closer look at the photo and it's the same serial number on both joints.

Is the seller in Portugal, by any chance?

I think it's just a trick of the light, both are F306210 from what I see. The 3 just has a serif making it look like a 5 and the 6 is hard to make out because of the glare.

I think you are right. When I zoomed in, I realized that it might be the same. Because the upper side of the number 3 is angular like 5 and it is difficult to distinguish between 6 and 8. I'll let you know when the clarinet arrives.

Thank you for all your answers.

Caner.

And more likely the seller took the photo to show matching serial numbers, rather than flagging the opposite - although full marks for honesty if the latter.

My clarinet arrived and the serial numbers are the same :) I panicked for nothing. It's a pretty good clarinet. I am lucky. Thank you for all your answers.
