I've mentioned the book I started with in 4th grade-- Foundation to Clarinet Playing by Carle Reinecke. It too started off at square one. It didn't go as far as the Klose, but it was a thick book and the stuff at the end was probably for a decent playing high school student. I enjoyed it and still have it (well, most of it). It wasn't composed as far back as the Klose of course (can't find the date).
