Hello all,
I use a Bonade ligature; I am wondering if there are other kinds that are worth trying out?
Thanks!

Well since you asked. I use the BG Revelation. It is a really good ligature. I am not sure about yours that you have. It probably is a really good one and I probably have heard of it but I just don't remember. I like the BG Revalation but it is all up to you....how it sounds with your reed and mouthpiece. My set up is a Woodwind K10M mouthpiece, size 4 vandoren black master reeds, and the BG Revalation ligature. And my clarinet is a R-13 But it all depends on you.

There are tons of ligatures out there to try, all of them ranging in prices. Everyone has different opinions about each of them, but all them are all good in one way or another, except maybe the stock ones that come with new Buffets.

Many of the best clarinetists I know use the Bonade ligiture. I am currently using the VanDoran Optimum with the two rail (Bonade-like) insert which plays very much like the original Bonade but is not so prone to bending out of adjustment. Other ligitures that I have used in the past and liked are the Laurie "springboard," the Winslow (expensive and tricky to maintain, however, I still use them on sop, alto and tenor sax where they perform best), and Charles Bay Gold. Good luck in your search.

There are a few of us who keep encouraging people to try a shoe string ligature. Most people who do love it .The only complaints I hear is that it takes too long to tie. With practice this is not an issue. It takes me an aveerage of about 15 seconds. The other complaint is that it looks tacky. Do you want to look good or sound good? Seriously, those of you who have tried it and didn't like it, What was yuor reason?

I (not on purpose) sat on my BG Special Fabric Revelation and bent it into a cool but unusable shape, so now I use a Vandoren Optimum with the plate that looks like a Ruffles potato chip. I like it, it gives the reed a lot of freedom, esp. in articulation. (I have gone through a Rovner and Vandoren Black also and my current ligature is my favorite, but it is pricey.)

Hello all - Thanks for your replies. I thought I'd write one message and address the issues brought up in earlier posts. I have not heard of the BG Revelation or the Vandoren Optimum ligatures. How pricy do these get? My set-up right now is a Vandoren mouthpiece, Bonade ligature, and Vandoren V-12 or Vandoren regular reeds - strength 4. Sometimes I use a 3 1/2 strength... when I don't want to suffer with reed problems!! Are there any other ideas? The Bonade ligature was highly recommended to me a few years ago; that's what I have used since. I used to use a Rovner ligature a LONG time ago!

The BG Revelation, which I also use, is cheap among Ligatures. Around $24-25 via Catalogue. The Optimum varies in price. recently being sold (new) on eBay for around $40. Catalogues sell at around $50 ... mouthpiece cap is extra. Pushing price to over $60 the lastg i checked. best, mw
