 Shameless self-promotion

I am looking into creating a solid, reliable infrastructure for those people that want to create their own websites and services - I can provide servers, web servers, storage, databases, mail, automatic backup, domains, software like open source CRM, etc. for a reasonably low price, maintained and updated by me. You realize that this site has been up pretty much non-stop for 23 years (actually longer but it wasn't the bboard) ... I know (more or less) what I'm doing.

ell me what you want as a package, I'll put it together and give you a good annual price. Heck, I'll even get you a domain and hook it to Wix if you want and just charge you annually for the domain. I always start with the minimum lowest-cost packages and we can always increase power and storage as needed.

All services are linux based and are standard packages (nginx for http, email via 1and1, mariadb for database, PHP 7 or 8, python 3, etc.) and backups are run twice a day for all user files. You can install anything you want to onto of these - it's you're server - but it'll come equipped with the standards. I can install anything special if you want me to (I have my own personal VPN which costs me nothing - except my time to set up). Custom installations/modifications are quoted on an hourly rate.

Complete infrastructure services start at $120/yr for a little server, standard setup, and backups (a small operation) on up. Let me know if it would interest you so I can see if it's worth my time & effort.

I am NOT a web designer (take a look at this hot mess of a site if you weren't sure) but I'm a damn good infrastructure designer :)

Hi Mark,

Do you mean for personal stuff, or to make more clarinet infrastructure? I would love to have a clarinet wikipedia that we could all build together with the really great nuggets of information that emerge in the threads here.

It'd be your server to do with what you want - you'd be responsible for getting & installing the wiki software, etc. It can be for business or pleasure. So far there's not enough interest here to spin this off into a self-sustaining business.

Hi Mark,

Yes I see what you mean. My husband has been running a server like this with some friends since they were students. It's very handy for when we want to put up a website. That's my favourite thing to do with it really.

I used to enjoy being able to write a website entirely to my own specs in html. These days I mostly just use a combination of blogger and youtube, but it's not as good as having access to a webserver like the one that you are suggesting.
