My clarinet is approaching its first winter & it gets very cold where I am. I was just wondering *how* I could manage to protect it from the severe temperature change?

Obviously, don't play outside or take your horn out of its case while outside, if at all possible. I have insulated cases for all my instruments. That seems to help both in cold and hot weather.

Yes, insulated cases are good. You may also want to get an insulated gig bag to keep your case in. The inside of your case should be moist, because your clarinet will be more likely to crack if it is dry. What you should do is get a small natural sponge (NOT containing laytex because it may tarnish your keys). Soak it in water and put it on a piece of wax paper or plastic wrap inside your case. If you have room for a small perscription vial, use that to hold the sponge, but make sure it stands upright and does not touch the lid of the case.
