I'm fascinated by it's looks, but have yet to find any good reviews of this instrument. Any of you have experience with this one? If, so I'd like to hear your review. All I've heard is they are good in looks only, and playability is student level at best. ?????

I have two of the 'violin-finish' Conn clarinets, both have been overhauled. Pretty to look at, very average players, so they sit on my shelf. "Student level at best" sounds right to me.

yea they used pretty ww2 surplus wood and made student horns out of them. my conn 424 on the other hand is a monster jazzer. def not for symphonic use! using the vandy 5jb you can bend the pitches like crazy.

I had one years ago. Very pretty, but it had tuning issues such that it was almost unusable. I sold it on to a jazz player who wanted something flashy.

You guys convinced me of what I'd heard prior. That is, the so called "propeller wood" clarinet is interesting, even pretty to look at, but not a good player. Thanks.
David Spiegelthal, you've done clarinet rebuild and mouthpiece work for me before and are truly the best. Good to see you're still going at it.

Looks like rosewood. If you'd like a rosewood stick check out the Patricola.
