Hi, I bought myself a Patricola CL2 clarinet and I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of reputation Patricola has?

they're WONDERFUL!!! I just LOVE Patricola instruments. I have a Patricola Bb clarinet, and my oboe and English horn are both rosewood Patricolas. You are going to LOVE THEM!! Congrats on a great choice

Patricola is a sponsor of Sneezy.Org. They have been making oboes for quite some time, and branched out into clarinets maybe 5 ot 6 years ago. Their Eb clarinet is well-known for being a fine instrument; their Bb and A a few years back wasn't quite as good as their Eb (intonation wise), but I hear that it's now a very good instrument. The craftmanship of their clarinets has always been of a high quality.

I got myself a Patricola Eb clarinet at the start of this year and it is an excellent instrument. Great value too. It really stacks up well when compared to the Buffet Ebs. All Patricola offer the extra features that Buffet don't, like the articulate G# and the extra tone hole for throat Bb, and left hand Eb key. I have a friend at university who got himself a Patricola Bb earlier this year too and he is sounding fantastic. So to answer your question, Patricola is really creating a good name for themselves.

You might look at Woodwind and Brasswind's website, or call International Musical Suppliers or Brook Mays Co. and ask about prices. The discount stores will give you an idea of what the retail price should be on these. Then, you might split the difference between the discount store and the full retail price and figure a fairly good guess as to a good deal on a new one if you go to a retailer near you where you could try it out before buying.

I wonder why you are asking about Patricola clarinets AFTER purchasing one. I suspect you think you have made a mistake, and maybe you have.
As I said in another thread, Buffet clarinets are far superior in every respect, and cost only slightly more. I know of no American orchestral players who play Patricola (would be interested if anyone else knows of even one in a full-time job). There must be a reason.
