Hi.
I received a clarinet yesterday, it is a Boosey & Hawkes Emperor. the serial number is 89981. Could anybody please tell me the year on this clarinet or point me in the correct direction to any serial number links.

At a guess I'd say around 1952-1953.
Ignore most B&H serial number lists found most American websites as they're around twenty years out. And some even dispute the fact they're wrong even when the evidence is handed to them on a plate.

Just found my serial number list and it makes interesting reading:
1952 - 68956-90150
1953 - 90969-96041
1954 - 69079-104315
1955 - 70193-120129
1956 - 114765-136964
1957 - 134315-154505
1958 - 135296-170731
1959 - 135425-182917
Maybe some instruments were finished and the serial number registered much later than when the joints were originally stamped going by the vagueness of it, although it's still more reliable than some serial number lists.
