Went to Brook Mayes for a followup adjustment on an E-11 & brought my mouthpiece. Played a Buffet Greenline R-13. They only had one in the store. My observations (having played the GL at ClarinetFest last year & at OK Symposium this year) :
1. No noticeable or bothersome weight difference. (YMMV)
2. The tuning was dead-on .... especially in lower part of Chalumeau. Throat tones were 2-3 cents flat & were easily lipped. (Used a Borbeck 13 w/Vandoren V-12 4's for my test) Everything else was dead-on! Of particular interest was tuning to F in Altissimo, again was on the money or a penny in variation .... warmed up the instrument well, too.
3. I really eye-balled the Greenline a lot. It's really hard to detect that it isn't a wood clarinet manufactured/fashioned the traditional way.
4. Price quote was $1,800 which I though was darned fair.

I too examined the Greenline at the Texas Bandmaster's Convention in San Antonio this week. It is a nice instrument. They also had a Greenline Prestige (or Festival, I can't recall at this moment) which was an excellent instrument. It was a joy talking shop with Francois Kloc and Tom Ridenour. I always learn something from them.

Well, hey! My new Greenline R-13 arrived yesterday and I am in love! It is wonderful. I paid $1,799.00 (similar price as mentioned above) and think that is a bargain for an instrument as excellent as this one. It has a dark, warm tone and excellent intonation.
In our discussion a few weeks ago several people mentioned the lack of flexibility in greenlines they had tried. Not this one. It plays Klezmer with all those bends like the best of the regular R-13s.
Granted it takes a bit of careful selection to get a good one, but that's not really a lot different from buying a regular R-13. The new batch of greenlines from Buffet seems to be good. Maybe it's time to buy them. I can't wait to use mine in some of our upcoming outdoor concerts. It's over 100 degrees F. here in Texas and that's where the greenline is going to really make my day!

I am very pleased to see that this technology is finding more and more buyers!
I've owned an RC Prestige GL for over 6 years now and have not had any problems with it. I love the tone, intonation is good and it's just good to be able not to worry about it.
I live in Montreal and we went in 2 days from a 35C (95F) temp with 70% humidity to a 16C (60F) with 35% humidity and I do not worry about my horn at all. I can't find a reed that works though ;->
Enjoy, who knows, Brenda might even drop the leblanc =:-))

I will always love the sound and feel of the Opus. There is nothing quite like it. But, the greenline R-13 that I just purchased is a wonderful instrument as well. I particularly enjoyed playing the Big Band stuff on it.
I love them both.

I plan to order one tomorrow ...........waiting for the mid year bonus check........seems like it gets later every year. I wait, because the bonus is not gauranteed and you never know how much it will be. So, with fingers crossed, should be able to afford a Greenline.

Jerry, I buy lots of stuff from Brook Mays, as you may remember. And mw did mention he had tried one from them--so that's a source. Also, you might try Lisa Argiris at International Musical Suppliers. That's where I got mine. I happened to "special order" one when I was in Chicago visiting with her in her store. She had 5 that had just come in when she shipped mine--so I know she's down to at least 4, but she did say they were really good ones this time. So, you beat out the Texas sales tax if you order from her. 800-762-1116.
I don't know how long it'll be before you play Big Band tunes. Get some sheet music and try it now. Or, you could join a community band.
