Hi everybody,
I've been trying to find any information about mixing wooden clarinets with greenline barrels or bells, is it ok to do it or are greenline barrels supposed to only fit greenline clarinets?
The store I go to only has greenline barrels for the moment and the only information in the Buffet page says that for greenline you should buy greenline barrels but not the opposite.
What do you guys think?

I've got a mint condition solid wood Buffet icon barrel that I could sell to you if you would like it. I bought it for my old vintage clarinet but I didn't use it for very long and it's just in a drawer in its box now.
I'm in the UK, so time and postage might be a factor.

If I understand you correctly, Buffet says it's okay to use a GreenLine barrel on a wooden instrument so why are you concerned? As long as it fits and plays in tune there's no problem. People use all kinds of after-market barrels – I use a Delrin barrel on my GreenLine R13.

I bought the Greenline Icon barrel to be more resistant to climatic change but it turns out to be one of the best barrels I have. The inert material seems to actually make the sound of the horn more resonant.
There is NO problem mixing and matching.

Buffet only explicitly explains that For Greenline clarinets you should use greenline barrel, so that makes me wonder if its any different for wooden clarinets?

Thanks for the confirmation!
I did try this greenline barrel and it does sound a lot more resonant and free blowing, pehaps maybe a bit too much? I felt like i could also lose my tone more easily, it was less focused.
How is the wooden icon (or any icon) barrel supposed to feel?alvarinb wrote:

Perhaps any reference to the use of Greenlline barrels has more to do with WHY many of us use Greenline in the first place. In the US military bands Greenline clarinets are categorized as "plastic." They are used for outdoor events in very cold weather and when it is raining. Wood (as we all know) is more likely to crack when exposed to more "hostile" environments.
