Just looking through Ebay and found a guy selling a B & H Fogware clarinet. Made me laugh because he had 2 of them for sale and both listed as Fogware. On examination the way they're engraved looks like it could be Fogware. Most telling reason is there's no "E" after the "G". Then I noticed on other listings for B & H Edgeware, that there is NO "E" following the "G" in any of them. Conclusion is that the right way of spelling Edgeware is EDGWARE. Yet all of us clarinet folks spell it with an "E" after the "G". Dang I feel stupid for not noticing this proper spelling all these years. How 'bout you?

Ah well, even people in the London area get that wrong! (Edgware being a northern suburb of London where B & H had their works at one time).

John,
I did another search on that auction site only this time in the U.K. There, I found 18 for the Edgware and 3 for the Edgeware.
Interesting, huh? It appears that when those clarinets crossed the pond, the appropriate name somehow changed.

Well, it's "...as dumb as I."
(Sorry, but I couldn't resist.)

During the blitz, a lot of letters in London got hit by bombs. They tried to fix that later, but many of them ended up being put back in the wrong places. The "H" in Thames never really recovered and the "A" next to it was also damaged.
We did manage to save the second "I" in "aluminium" however, making it a bit heavier than the American metal and a slightly different colour.

I got you beat. I made up a sheet (simple clarinet version) of Stranger on the Shore in the year 2000 - I miss-spelled Stranger as "Stanger" but never noticed. For 15 years I used photocopies of the same sheet... not ONE student ever mentioned it until in 2015 I asked a boy why he kept calling the piece "Stanger on the shore".... he pointed out to me my error.

Acker used to call it Strangler on the floor.
