Anyone else have this problem? I have a Vandoren Optimum, Bonade inverted, and old school "L" Leblance. All of which twist and slip easy which of course causes the reed to come off the table. Is there any cure for this? Tightening doesn't seem to help. Doesn't happen on my wood MPC or hard rubber, just the crystals.

I lined metal ligatures with transparent book film to stop them from sliding off crystal mouthpieces.

You could try roughing the inside of the ligature slightly with some fine sandpaper (350 grit). Just roll around a few times for some light lateral scratches on the inner surface of the ligature.

Use cork grease. Or even lip balm! That's more slippery. Many ligatures, specially metal ones are quite slippery. That's because more the ligarure sticks to the mouthpiece more it tends to dampen overtones

Not sure what book film is Tony. I'll research. Roughing the inside of the metal ligs sounds promising. Thanks Paul. Jarmo, if cork grease is slippery then it seems like it would compound the slippage problem. Thanks for your tips fellas.

Check out "contact adhesive book covering". You'll get it in most stationers. Just line the inside of the ligature and then cut out the open areas with a hobby knife.

I second the Rovner suggestion. I compared my Brancher, Bonade reverse, Rovner ligatures, and a piece of velcro. I know there are those who claim that the ligature makes a huge difference to the sound and feel of the instrument. In that brief experiment I could not discern any such difference. However the Rovner was the only one that did not slip when I put on and removed the tight fitting mouthpiece.

Thanks Marcia. I have a Vandoren leather lig that works exceedingly well. I use it regularly. I would however like to use some of the nice metal ones on the crystals because they allow the mouthpiece to show better.
