There’s no need to make 3 separate posts. You’re probably not getting many replies because there really aren’t any quick “tips or tricks” to make you play better other than using good equipment and practicing. Most contra altos are easy to play and free blowing when properly set up so if you are struggling you probably need a new mouthpiece and/or to have your instrument serviced. The only “tip” I have is try bari sax reeds, but that won’t necessarily make you play better, they’re just cheaper. Try a new mouthpiece first and have the instrument serviced and report back. If that’s not an option for whatever reason then all you can really do is play what you have and save up for your own instrument and mouthpiece. We’ve all had to struggle on poorly maintained school instruments, it’s almost a right of passage for low clarinet players.

Also if there are any universities in the area with a good music programs some may also be willing to rent out contra clarinets. Might be a good option as well.
