I was wondering how many of you are familiar with the music program at Ithaca College in NY. I'm going there next year and would be interested in the program or the college itself. thanks therese

I have friends who go to Ithaca and they are very happy with the program. While they are challenged on their instruments (sax and trumpet), it is not too big of a challenge. It's a beautiful school, from what I've seen from visits!

I knew Mike Galvan, the senior clarinet instructor, years ago at Illinois. He's a fine man and a patient teacher.

Steve--
Did the Mike Galvan that you are referring to attend the University of New Mexico in the mid 70s? The name seems vaguely familiar.

If this is the same Mike Galvan that I am thinking of, and it seems it is, I'd like to know how to get ahold of him, such as by e-mail. He may not remember me because I was not a music major, but we were in marching band together. As I now recall, he may have been a drum major (the kind that leads the band, not one whose major subject is drums). Our school even had a football team that tried to entertain the crowd between our pregame and halftime shows.
What is really interesting is that a few days ago, someone else who played clarinet in the UNM marching band at that time recognized my first initial and last name on a bass clarinet bulletin board. At the rate I am going, we may be able to have an electronic reunion of everyone who played in the marching band at that time.

Don,
Go to the Ithaca web site he's on there. His email is also on the ICA site (www.clarinet.org) somewhere since he's a state or regional rep.

Therese,
If you come to Ithaca, two things:1)it is a place where William Saroyan - an Armenian imigrant - wrote 'Life with my father', and 2)Ithaca is a Greek city where Ulyses(Odysseus) was born. Of course you know these.
Have a good trip!
