Thanks @brycon. I'm not. @igalkov has a right to his opinions, even if he expresses them with a little more edge than maybe necessary.
And perhaps his (@igalkov's) musical acumen/palate is more sophisticated than mine--which by the way I say sincerely, not as an insult. I just know pleasant music when I hear it. IMHO so many modern composers for the clarinet are writing melody that doesn't invoke the same emotion for me.
If Mangani pleases the soul in the same way that Mantovani did with light orchestral works for my parents in the 1960's it's still fine with me.
And it's true that some of Mangani's work might more be the soundtrack of a epic "The English Patient" like movie.
Then again, people wiser than me have described the first movement of the Mozart Clarinet concerto as a variation of the first 3 measures--even if a beautiful genius inspired take at that! (lol)
