I am surprised at the lack of posts here on what I think is the brilliant Italian composer Mr. Michele Mangani.
I defy you to visit YouTube and listen to any of his works and not be impressed.
I have no connection to him, except to say that he returns emails.
I first fell in love with his work Fantasy as played by Corrado Guifreddi.
Now that I’ve listened to more of his catalog I’m not sure which pieces a don’t really enjoy.
I encourage you to listen.

They just all the same. You’ve heard one — you’ve heard them all. Pleasant, enjoyable studies, “sweet nothings”, boring after a minute.

Not totally true: those endless scale and arpeggio patterns are occasionally broken up by a melody; sometimes this bit of melody is copped from Poulenc's duo, sometimes from Poulenc's sonata, sometimes from the slow movement of Rachmaninoff's second concerto, etc.
Mangani is to the art of music what a stock-photo of a businessman in a suit and tie is to the art of photography.
But everyone likes what they like. So don't let the curmudgeons turn you off of his music, SecondTry!

Thanks @brycon. I'm not. @igalkov has a right to his opinions, even if he expresses them with a little more edge than maybe necessary.
And perhaps his (@igalkov's) musical acumen/palate is more sophisticated than mine--which by the way I say sincerely, not as an insult. I just know pleasant music when I hear it. IMHO so many modern composers for the clarinet are writing melody that doesn't invoke the same emotion for me.
If Mangani pleases the soul in the same way that Mantovani did with light orchestral works for my parents in the 1960's it's still fine with me.
And it's true that some of Mangani's work might more be the soundtrack of a epic "The English Patient" like movie.
Then again, people wiser than me have described the first movement of the Mozart Clarinet concerto as a variation of the first 3 measures--even if a beautiful genius inspired take at that! (lol)

Thanks @farabout.
Not because you agreed with me but expressed so succinctly why I like Mangani's work and often dislike so many other modern composer's work.
I hum Mangani's stuff, not the latter. And if that's some "hillbilly way" of saying that his melodies are appealing to me, so be it!

His works always go down well with audiences. I gave the British premier of the Sonata and members of that audience commented that they preferred it the most. At the end of the day you like what you like.

Right? This is what I'm sayin'!
Maybe some audiences have a less sophisticated palette for music that musicians but people leave the theater liking what the heard when his compositions are performed.

Just listened to the Fantasy (again.....someone else brought this up recently).
Ya know, there is always a need for fun, easier solo pieces for concert band (there are usually at least one or two decent clarinet players in a good sized concert band).
Frankly, I'd much rather have an original piece (if it is indeed originally concert band) than hear an arrangement of Concertino or the Artie Shaw Concerto. Just sayin'
