Clarinet service in CT / NYC area?
Author: PeteCT

Hi - I'd like to get my mother's old Buffet Crampon R13 Bb clarinet (late 1950's) up to playing condition. It needs new pads at the very least.

I live in Connecticut. Can someone please recommend a good service person in the NYC / New England / Northeast region? I'm willing to ship it to someone for good quality work, if necessary.

Thank you,

Pete

Another vote for Tim Moran. Good tech and easy to work with.

If you want the absolute best and have a *lot* of money to spend, Guy Chadash in NYC would be worth a try.

Wojtec Komsta is the best! He used to do Stoltzman’s repair, and lives in New Jersey. And he really plays, too!

I second Chris Howard, great guy and very skilled repair tech.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I spoke to Tim Moran today and will likely go with him. His shop isn't far from me, and I appreciated his patience in answering my questions.

I recommend M. Norsworthy at www.nyclarinetworkshop.com.

Very knowledgeable rech and an excellent player as well.

Seconding the recommendation of Michael Norsworthy, he's done great work for me; he also does Michael Lowenstern's work, as well as a bunch of the local Broadway-level players. He's in Brooklyn, easy to get to via subway.

Probably too late for this time but, another name to consider is Liam Burke. He did a fairly lengthy apprenticeship with Mark Jacobi and works from two locations: Riverside Dr. in New York City and New Canaan, Connecticut.

Best regards,
