Based only on my memory of the original V.12s, I'd say yes. There was a point several years ago when I felt that they had suddenly gotten stuffier. It seemed to have coincided with the switch from logos stamped in black ink and the logos that are etched into the cane with a reddish or brownish ink (or maybe the logos are just burned in). I've never been able to think of a logical reason for any connection between the two changes, though. but it gives a time reference for the change I've found in response characteristics.
In my experience with current V.12s, I find them too thick, or at least too inflexible, in the areas about halfway between the spine and the edges on both sides all the way up to about an eighth of an inch from the tip edge. I don't have any of the older ones to compare to.
Others' opinions, of course, may differ and other mouthpiece types than the ones I've used may give different results.

I think the only way you'd know if they play differently would be to buy them and find out. I don't remember when those boxes were replaced. Unfortunately, the seller is offering them as a 4-box lot, so it's a somewhat pricey experiment.
